The Thirteenth International Small Scale Steamup and Arts Festival
2005
WRAP-UP

Dear Live Steamer,

We really shook the rafters with this one! For the thirteenth year we have run our trains, talked a little , ate and drank a lot , and just had fun. What better way to spend week or so in winter? Here’s some of the interesting arcane stuff that you’ve been asking about:

We had 246 attendees registered , but we made up 316 name tags , so it seems that there were 70 spouses accompanying the steamers. Of those registered , there were some no-shows , but not enough of them to skew the numbers much.

We used:
84 gallons of water
14 gallons of alcohol
16 cases of butane
12 pounds of rags

We came from 32 states and 7 countries to play with steam over a period of almost two weeks. The Canadians ( Bob Maas and Ed Cook ) were first to arrive , and then came the Michigan Small Scale Live Steamers (Tom Myers and Bob Weltyk ) We attacked the set up and had train ready tracks open for running on the 9th of January. This was really an accomplishment since the large track had all but been destroyed in the storage process from last year. The Canadians ( which by this time had Carol Homuth along ) worked long hours sorting out the mess and piecing it all together. It all worked out to give us a high speed track for over a week.

Where did we all come from?

The Wales West excursion was a hit and we’ll do it again , so if you want to be part of it make the appropriate note on your registration form. The Wales West people are planning on having a gauge one portable track for us so that you could make quite a day of it . I hope that you enjoyed your week of steaming and I’m getting started on 2006 as soon as I rest up. Take care,

Jerry
